I create websites for individuals and small businesses who are looking for elegant and creatively designed sites that entice viewers in, have clear and easy navigation, and are search engine friendly giving them the greatest possibility of rising towards the top of free search engine lists. My background as a visual artist is value-added, not the norm in the sometimes cluttered world of website design. My priority, beyond the critical element of design, is to create well-built clean sites: all the background work and detailed coding that you won't see on the screen will make your website work the way you want it to, and impress your viewers as an individual reflection of you and your work.
Below are samples of several websites that I have both designed and built. In each case I have worked closely with the client to tailor a site to their individual needs, in order to reflect the personality of their work or service. For each of the examples below a link to the actual site is provided. Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you are looking for an affordable, well designed and constructed website.
Patrice Rossi is a scientific illustrator with over 30 years experience in many techniques and for a variety of applications including editorial, textbook publishing, interactive signage, and technical manuals. She needed a clean and easy to navigate on-line portfolio of her extensive work as well as making sure the images could not be downloaded (for copyright protection).
Buxton Communications is a marketing and public relations company in Portland Maine providing PR, advertising and marketing strategies to a variety of clients in a wide range of industries. They needed a new website that incorporates their blog "The Buxton Report". The entire site is built on the WordPress platform with a custom-designed theme, making it easy for the client to maintain the site themselves.
Fishbowl Farm is a small sustainable organic farm in Bowdoinham, Maine. They offer a summer CSA, and were looking for ways to promote it, as well as having an on-line presence. I helped them develop a clear and informative site, as well as handling the design and build of the site.
The Peregrine Press is a printmaking cooperative in Portland Maine whose site I redesigned and rebuilt several years ago, and continue to maintain and update. In addition to a collective flat file portfolio the group recently established, (flatfile), one of the more interesting challenges this site presents is that of showcasing the work by most of the 30 member artists.
Maine Island Treasures needed an overhaul of their website in a short amount of time. I came up with a fresh clean look to show off their unique island inspired artwork, and also created a fully integrated blog for the site.
Robin is another artist who needed help developing a website. In addition to designing and building her site, I helped Robin prepare all of the necesary visual materials. We recently updated her site with additional portfolio pages, and a new home page that includes a small javascript slideshow.
The Midcoast Printmakers is a small group of artists who run a printmaking studio in the midcoast region of Maine. They teach classes, and needed an on-line presence to boost enrollment. They also needed to be set up to do future e-mail newsletters, and a blog all of which is incorporated into their website.
As with Robin's site, I worked closely with Frankie to organize her work, and come up with a way to show an on-line portfolio of a wide variety and range of work.
Maureen is a therapist working with two very different types of clients. She was looking for a professionally designed and built website within a fairly tight budget. In addition to designing a simple and easy to navigate website, I provided Maureen with the artwork used on the site. This is a basic site with a clear descriptive of the client's work, yet made personal with original artwork.
An artist's website - I worked closely with Sandra to design and build her website early in my web-design career, and we recently gave the site a refreshed design and new build. Her site is clean and accessible, giving her artwork full focus.
